The TUNGALOY 6998377 is a TPMT-series cermet turning insert with a TiCNO PVD coating and grade designation GT9530. It carries a 60-degree triangular shape (ANSI code TPMT32.51, ISO code TPMT16T304), a 0.40 mm corner radius, and a positive rake and relief geometry. The PS chip breaker geometry is optimized for finishing and medium machining passes. With three usable cutting edges and a screw-holding mount, this insert suits CNC turning centers and manual lathes where consistent surface finish and tool life on steel and similar materials are priorities.
This insert is suited for turning, facing, and boring operations on steel (P-class), stainless steel (M-class), and cast iron (K-class) workpieces. The GT9530 grade delivers high wear resistance on steel and cast iron and moderate wear resistance with balanced toughness on stainless steel. Material grades P10, P20, M20, and K10 are within its designed operating range. The maximum recommended depth of cut is 2.50 mm (0.0984 inches), making it appropriate for light-to-medium finishing passes rather than heavy roughing.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct-fit insert for TPMT-series toolholders conforming to ANSI TPMT32.51 and ISO TPMT16T304 standards. Consult your toolholder manufacturer specifications to confirm pocket geometry and screw-clamp compatibility before installation.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or tooling technicians. Disengage the machine spindle and confirm the toolholder pocket is clean and free of debris before seating the insert. Use the correct torque wrench for the clamping screw - refer to the toolholder manufacturer specifications for the required value, as over-torquing can fracture the cermet substrate. Inspect cutting edges for chipping before each use and replace the insert when wear reaches the limit specified in your shop process documentation.
