The TUNGALOY 6857021 is a solid carbide turning insert carrying the ISO designation CCGT 09T301N-JS in grade AH725. It features a PVD-applied TiAlN coating over a carbide substrate, delivering wear resistance and thermal stability across a wide range of cutting conditions. The insert has an 80-degree diamond shape (C shape code), a neutral hand orientation, a 0.3750-inch inscribed circle, and a 0.004-inch corner radius. With a positive rake angle of 10 degrees and a 7-degree relief angle, it is engineered for finishing and semi-finishing operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Licensed machinists and CNC operators are the typical end users.
This insert is suited for turning, facing, and boring operations on a broad range of workpiece materials including steel, stainless steel, cast iron, non-ferrous metals, superalloys, titanium, and hard materials. It performs within material grades P15, P30, M15, M30, K25, K30, S15, and S25, making it a versatile choice for job shops and production environments that run mixed-material schedules. The JS chip breaker geometry is optimized for controlled chip formation at light to moderate depths of cut, with a maximum depth of cut of 0.50 mm (0.1181 inches).
Designed for use in CCGT-style screw-on turning toolholders with a 3/8-inch inscribed circle seat. Meets ANSI and ISO standards for CCGT insert geometry. Confirm toolholder pocket specifications against the CCGT 09T301N seat requirements before ordering.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC setup technician with the machine in a full stop and lockout/tagout procedures applied. Seat the insert firmly into the toolholder pocket and tighten the clamping screw to the toolholder manufacturer's specified torque. Inspect the insert pocket and clamping screw for wear or contamination before indexing to a fresh cutting edge. Discard the insert when all cutting edges are worn; do not attempt to regrind TiAlN-coated carbide inserts.
