The TUNGALOY 6854006 is a solid carbide turning insert designated by ISO code DCGT11T304FNJS in the SH730 manufacturer grade. The insert features a 55-degree diamond shape with a positive rake angle of 10 degrees and a 7-degree relief angle, suited for precision finishing and light semi-finishing operations. A PVD-applied TiAlN coating enhances wear resistance and thermal stability at the cutting edge. With two usable cutting edges and a sharp cutting edge style, this insert is designed for high-accuracy, low-force cutting on difficult-to-machine materials. Licensed machinists and toolroom professionals install this insert in screw-held indexable toolholders for CNC turning, facing, boring, back turning, and back boring operations.
This insert is engineered for primary workpiece materials including steel (P), stainless steel (M), and superalloys and titanium (S), corresponding to material grades P20, P35, M20, M35, S05, and S15. A maximum depth of cut of 0.50 mm (0.1181 inches) makes it appropriate for finishing passes and light material removal. The JS chip breaker geometry supports controlled chip formation on these demanding material groups. It is suited for both vertical and horizontal machining centers running CNC turning operations in production and job-shop environments.
Designed for use in screw-held indexable toolholders accepting the DCGT insert style with clearance code C and tolerance code G. Compatible with toolholder systems conforming to ANSI and ISO standards for DCGT 32.51 FN-JS geometry inserts.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before indexing or replacing the insert. Seat the insert fully against the toolholder pocket and torque the clamping screw according to the toolholder manufacturer specification. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surface for chips or debris before each insert change to prevent insert fracture or dimensional error.
