The TUNGALOY 6829228 is a CCMT-style solid carbide turning insert designed for precision metal cutting in CNC and manual lathe applications. It carries a multilayer PVD coating of TiAlN and TiCN under the AH6225 manufacturer grade, delivering thermal resistance and wear life on demanding workpiece materials. The insert features an 80-degree diamond shape with a 3/8-inch inscribed circle, a 0.031-inch corner radius, and a positive rake angle of 10 degrees. A honed cutting edge style reduces micro-chipping at the edge line. Licensed HVAC technicians, machinists, and toolroom professionals install this insert in standard screw-lock toolholders.
This insert is suited for turning, facing, and boring operations on steel and stainless steel workpieces. It falls within ISO material grades P20, P30, M20, and M30, covering a wide range of medium-carbon steels and austenitic stainless grades. The PS chip breaker geometry is optimized for light-to-medium depth-of-cut passes, with a maximum depth of cut of 0.098 inches. It is a neutral-hand insert applicable across right-hand and left-hand toolholders with compatible pocket geometry. The CCMT-PS series is a common production-floor choice for general turning where consistent chip control and surface finish are priorities.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement and standard production insert for CCMT-compatible screw-lock toolholders conforming to ANSI and ISO CCMT standards (ISO designation CCMT09T308-PS, industry standard CCMT 32.52 PS). Primary workpiece materials are steel (ISO P) and stainless steel (ISO M).
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or toolroom technicians. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or replacing the insert. Use the manufacturer-specified torx or hex key for the clamp screw to avoid stripping the screw head - do not overtighten by hand. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surface for chips or debris before installing a new edge.
