The TUNGALOY 6821581 is a cermet, uncoated milling insert in the XCET series, carrying grade NS740 and style designation XCET310404ER. This single-sided, right-hand insert features a parallelogram shape with a 45-degree included angle and a positive rake geometry, making it well suited for high-speed finish and semi-finish milling of steel and stainless steel. The honed cutting edge style and 7-degree relief angle reduce built-up edge and promote clean chip evacuation. With two cutting edges per insert and a screw-type holding method, it delivers reliable indexing and consistent performance across production milling operations. Licensed machinists and CNC tooling technicians are the primary installers.
This insert is intended for milling applications in ferrous materials, specifically steel (ISO material code P) and stainless steel (ISO material code M). The XCET310404ER geometry is compatible with the ECC31 cutter series and is suited for both residential-scale job shops and commercial production environments where tight tolerances and surface finish are priorities. The cermet substrate without coating maintains sharp, stable cutting edges at elevated speeds, particularly effective for light depths of cut and finishing passes on carbon and low-alloy steels as well as austenitic stainless grades.
Designed for use with the ECC31 cutter series. ANSI and ISO designation XCET310404ER NS740 applies. Confirm toolholder pocket specifications match XCET style geometry before installation.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before indexing or replacing inserts. Use the manufacturer-specified torque driver for the clamping screw to ensure proper seating without damaging the insert pocket. Inspect the pocket seat and clamping screw for wear or debris before installing a new insert.
