The TUNGALOY 6818029 is a polycrystalline cubic boron nitride (PCBN) turning insert in the VNGA 332 geometry, designed for high-speed machining of hard materials. It features a 35-degree diamond insert shape, a 3/8-inch inscribed circle, and a 1/32-inch corner radius. The insert carries a BX360 manufacturer grade, is uncoated (bright finish), and uses a flat-top chip breaker with a honed cutting edge. With two cutting edges and negative rake geometry, it is suited for demanding interrupted and continuous cuts on hardened steels and similar hard workpiece materials. Machinists and CNC turning specialists install this insert in compatible toolholders using clamp and pin holding methods.
This insert is intended for use in turning, facing, boring, back turning, and back boring operations on hard materials (ISO material group H). It fits applications where tight tolerances and controlled surface finish are required, such as finish turning of hardened steel components. The VNGA 332 geometry is a neutral-hand insert, making it adaptable across right-hand and left-hand toolholder configurations. It conforms to both ANSI and ISO standards, with the ISO code VNGA 332 and industry standard number 2QP-VNGA 332.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct-fit insert for VNGA 332 geometry toolholders that accept clamp and pin style mounting. Compatible toolholders must accommodate a 3/8-inch inscribed circle and a 0.15-inch hole diameter. Suitable for turning, facing, boring, back turning, and back boring of hard workpiece materials per ISO group H designation.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC tooling technicians. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or indexing the insert. Secure the insert using both the clamp and pin holding method as specified by the toolholder manufacturer to prevent insert movement during hard-material cuts. Do not exceed the maximum depth of cut of 0.0197 inches as noted in the product specifications.
