The TUNGALOY 6817943 is a polycrystalline cubic boron nitride (PCBN) turning insert designed for high-precision machining of hardened materials. Carrying the ISO designation DCMW070204 and manufactured to ANSI and ISO standards, this insert features a 55-degree diamond (rhombic) shape with a positive rake angle and positive side clearance. It is uncoated, fine-grain grade BX330, engineered for high wear resistance with a balance of toughness. The 1/4-inch inscribed circle and 1/64-inch corner radius make it well-suited for finishing operations requiring tight tolerances and consistent surface finish. Two cutting edges are available per insert, and the cutting edge is honed for clean entry into hardened workpieces.
This insert is intended for finishing passes on hard materials, including hardened steels and similar ferrous workpiece materials classified under ISO material group H. Typical applications include turning, facing, boring, back turning, and back boring on CNC lathes and turning centers in both production and job-shop environments. It belongs to the 2QP-DCM/GW series and is compatible with screw-clamping toolholders designed for DCMW-style inserts. Maximum depth of cut is 0.50 mm (0.0197 inches), confirming its role as a finishing insert rather than a roughing tool.
Designed for use in DCMW-style screw-clamping toolholders compatible with the 2QP-DCM/GW insert series. Verify toolholder pocket geometry and seating before use.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and locked out before seating or replacing inserts. Use the correct torque wrench and manufacturer-specified clamping screw to secure the insert in the pocket - do not overtighten. Inspect the insert seat for chips or contamination before clamping, as debris under the insert will affect runout and edge life.
