The TUNGALOY 6817928 is a polycrystalline cubic boron nitride (PCBN) turning insert in the 2QP Mini-Tip series, designed for precision finishing operations on hard materials. It carries the ANSI insert code CNGA432 and ISO code CNGA120408. The insert features an 80-degree diamond (rhombic) shape, a negative rake angle, and a flat-top chip breaker geometry. With a 0.5 inch inscribed circle, a 0.1875 inch thickness, and a 0.0315 inch corner radius, this multi-tipped insert delivers consistent edge geometry across two cutting edges. It arrives uncoated with a honed cutting edge and is suited to licensed machinists and tooling professionals working in production turning environments.
The 6817928 is intended for turning, facing, and boring applications on hard workpiece materials, classified under ISO material group H. Its finishing chip breaker operation and maximum depth of cut of 0.0197 inches make it well-matched to light, accurate passes on hardened steels, hard cast irons, and similarly demanding workpiece materials. The insert is held by clamp and pin methods, compatible with toolholders designed for CNGA-style negative-clearance inserts. It meets both ANSI and ISO standards, making it interchangeable within internationally standardized tooling systems.
Designed for use in CNGA-style toolholders accepting negative-clearance, 80-degree diamond inserts with ANSI size code 432 and ISO size code 120408. Suitable for turning, facing, and boring operations. Refer to TUNGALOY toolholder documentation to confirm seat and clamp compatibility before installation.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or tooling technicians. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the toolholder is secured in the turret before seating or removing the insert. Use the appropriate torque wrench and clamping hardware specified by the toolholder manufacturer; do not overtighten the clamp screw. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surface for chips or debris before placing the insert to avoid edge fracture on initial cut.
