The TUNGALOY 6811615 is a CNMG431TM AH120 indexable turning insert designed for general-purpose metal cutting in CNC lathes and turning centers. It features a solid carbide substrate with a TiAlN PVD coating applied under the AH120 grade, delivering high wear resistance and edge stability across a broad range of workpiece materials. The insert carries a diamond 80-degree geometry with a negative rake angle of -6 degrees, a 1/64-inch corner radius, and a TM chip breaker designed to control chip flow during turning, facing, and boring operations. Licensed HVAC techs are not the audience here - this insert is installed by machinists and CNC operators working in production or job-shop environments.
The CNMG431TM AH120 is suited for turning, facing, and boring applications on steel, stainless steel, cast iron, superalloys, titanium, and hard materials. It carries ISO material grade designations P15, P25, M15, M25, K15, K30, S10, and S25, making it a versatile choice across a wide range of material hardness levels. The neutral hand orientation means it can be used in standard right-hand or left-hand toolholders that accept CNMG-style inserts. With four cutting edges per insert, it offers good cost-per-edge value in production turning.
Designed for use in CNMG-style toolholders that accept a 1/2-inch inscribed circle insert with clamp or pin holding. Suitable for turning, facing, and boring on steel, stainless steel, cast iron, superalloys, titanium, and hard materials per ISO material codes P, M, K, S, and H.
Installation is performed by a machinist or CNC operator with the machine fully stopped and in a safe, locked-out state before indexing or replacing inserts. Use the appropriate CNMG toolholder torque procedure per the toolholder manufacturer's documentation when seating the clamp or pin. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surface for chips or debris before installing a new edge. Do not exceed the maximum depth of cut of 0.1969 inches as noted in the published specifications.
