The TUNGALOY 6809441 is a solid carbide turning insert in the VNMG-SS series, designated by ANSI insert code VNMG331SS and ISO code VNMG160404. It features a 35-degree diamond (rhombic) shape with a neutral hand orientation and a negative rake and side clearance geometry. The GH330 grade carries a TiCNO PVD coating engineered for high wear resistance with balanced toughness. With a 1/64 inch (0.0157 inch) corner radius and a honed cutting edge, this insert is optimized for finishing operations. It provides four usable cutting edges per insert and is held in place by a clamp and pin system.
This insert is intended for turning, facing, boring, back turning, and back boring of steel, stainless steel, and cast iron workpieces, corresponding to ISO material classifications P, M, and K. Applicable material grades include P15, P30, M15, M30, K05, and K30. It suits a wide range of production turning applications where consistent surface finish and dimensional accuracy are required. Machinists and CNC operators working in job shop or production environments will find this insert a direct fit for compatible VNMG toolholders. Standards compliance covers both ANSI and ISO specifications.
Designed for use in VNMG-style toolholders that accept a 331 (ISO 160404) size insert with clamp and pin holding. Suitable for multi-use applications including turning, facing, boring, back turning, and back boring on steel, stainless steel, and cast iron workpieces across P15, P30, M15, M30, K05, and K30 material grades.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC tooling technicians. Always index or replace inserts with the machine powered down and the spindle fully stopped. Use appropriate insert seating tools to ensure the insert is fully seated against all pocket surfaces before clamping. Inspect the toolholder pocket and locating pin for wear or debris prior to seating a new insert, as pocket damage will affect runout and surface finish.
