The TUNGALOY 6808083 is a TNGA331 LX11 grade ceramic turning insert designed for high-speed finishing operations on hard materials. Manufactured from an alumina TiC ceramic substrate with a PVD-applied TiN coating, this insert delivers the heat resistance and edge stability required when cutting hardened steels and other difficult workpiece materials. It features a 60-degree triangular shape, a negative rake geometry, and a honed cutting edge style. With six usable cutting edges per insert, it offers extended tool life in production turning environments. The insert measures 0.65 inches in length with a 3/8-inch (0.375-inch) inscribed circle and a 1/64-inch (0.0157-inch) corner radius.
This insert is suited for finishing passes on hard materials in turning, facing, and boring applications. The flat-top chip breaker geometry and negative side clearance make it appropriate for rigid setups where controlled chip formation and tight surface finish tolerances are priorities. It is held in place using a clamp and pin system and is compatible with neutral-hand toolholders designed for TNGA-style inserts. Maximum depth of cut is 0.0787 inches, making it a finishing-grade tool rather than a roughing option. It conforms to both ANSI and ISO standards, with ANSI code TNGA331 and ISO code TNGA160404.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement for TNGA331-pattern ceramic turning inserts used in neutral-hand toolholders with clamp and pin retention. Suitable for turning, facing, and boring operations on hard materials. Refer to your toolholder manufacturer specifications to confirm TNGA331 seat compatibility before installation.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC toolroom personnel. Before seating the insert, ensure the toolholder pocket and seating surfaces are clean and free of chips or debris that could cause improper seating or edge chipping. Secure the insert using the designated clamp and pin per the toolholder manufacturer torque guidelines. Do not use this finishing insert for interrupted cuts or heavy roughing passes that exceed its maximum depth of cut rating.
