The TUNGALOY 6804828 is a solid carbide cutoff insert in the J-Series lineup, designed for parting and grooving operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. It carries the JCGN200F geometry with a J740 manufacturer grade and a PVD coating applied over a micrograin carbide substrate. The cutting width measures 2.00 mm (0.0787 inches) with a corner radius of 0.05 mm (0.0020 inches) and a neutral, zero-degree lead angle. These characteristics support consistent chip control and edge stability during cut-off work on steel and stainless steel workpieces. The insert is held in place by a clamp-style toolholder and is intended for use by machinists and toolroom technicians in production or job-shop environments.
This insert is suited for cut-off and grooving applications on ferrous materials, including steel grades classified under ISO material codes P and M. Those codes cover carbon and alloy steels as well as austenitic and duplex stainless steels. The neutral lead angle and F chipbreaker geometry make this insert a practical choice for straight plunge parting where consistent chip evacuation is critical. It fits J-Series clamp-style toolholders designed around the JCGN insert style and 200 size code. Typical applications include bar-fed turning operations, part-off cycles, and shallow grooving passes where dimensional accuracy and surface finish at the cut face are required.
Designed for use in J-Series clamp-style toolholders accepting JCGN insert style with a 200 size code. Suitable for machining steel and stainless steel workpieces per ISO material codes P and M.
Installation of cutoff inserts should be performed by a qualified machinist with the machine fully powered down and in a locked-out state before any toolholder work begins. Seat the insert fully against the pocket faces before tightening the clamp to ensure repeatable cutting-edge position. Do not exceed the toolholder manufacturer's recommended depth-of-cut or feed rate for this insert size. Inspect the cutting edge and corner radius at regular intervals, as chipped or worn edges on parting inserts can cause workpiece deflection and tool breakage.
