The TUNGALOY 6804734 is a Polycrystalline Cubic Boron Nitride (PCBN) turning insert in the WNGA 432 geometry, grade BXM20, with a Physical Vapor Deposition (PVD) TiCN coating. It carries an 80-degree trigon (W) shape, a neutral hand orientation, and a honed cutting edge for clean, controlled engagement. With 3 usable cutting edges and a flat-top chip breaker, this insert is configured for finishing operations on hard materials. The insert measures 0.686 inches in length with a 0.5 inch inscribed circle and a 0.0315 inch corner radius. It is held by clamp and pin and is suited for use by machinists and tooling technicians working with hardened ferrous and difficult-to-machine materials.
This insert is intended for finishing passes on hard materials, classified under ISO material grade H and primary workpiece material code H. Typical applications include turning, facing, and boring of hardened steels, hard cast irons, and similarly demanding workpiece materials on CNC turning centers and manual lathes. The flat-top chip breaker geometry and honed edge support precise surface finish results at tight depth-of-cut parameters, with a maximum depth of cut of 0.0197 inches. It is a multi-use insert suitable across turning, facing, and boring operations wherever tight tolerances and fine finishes are required on hard material components.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct-application insert for toolholders accepting WNGA 432 geometry inserts per ANSI and ISO standards. Compatible with clamp-and-pin style WNGA toolholders. Verify toolholder specification against ANSI insert code WNGA432 or ISO insert code WNGA080402 before ordering.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC tooling technicians. Before indexing or replacing inserts, ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and all power is isolated per facility lockout/tagout procedures. Seat the insert firmly against the toolholder pocket locating surfaces before engaging the clamp and pin to ensure repeatable runout. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surfaces for chips or debris before each insert change to avoid seating errors and premature edge failure.
