The TUNGALOY 6802314 is a solid carbide turning insert in the CNMG-TH series, designed for high-performance metal cutting on CNC lathes and turning centers. Featuring a TiAlN coating applied via PVD process, this insert carries the manufacturer grade AH120 and is built for negative rake angle operation at -20 degrees. The 80-degree diamond insert shape (CNMG) provides two usable cutting edges per side for a total of four cutting edges. With a 3/4-inch inscribed circle, a 0.76-inch insert length, and a 1/16-inch corner radius, this insert handles turning, facing, and boring operations with a chamfered and honed cutting edge style for controlled entry and edge stability.
This insert is suited for machining steel, stainless steel, cast iron, superalloys, titanium, and hard materials, covering ISO workpiece material codes P, M, K, S, and H. It fits within material grades P15, P25, M15, M25, K15, K30, S10, and S25, making it a versatile choice for general and interrupted-cut turning applications in both production and job-shop environments. The TH chip breaker geometry is optimized for consistent chip control across these material groups. Installation is handled by clamp and pin holding methods, compatible with standard CNMG-style toolholders. This insert is sold individually but subject to a minimum order quantity of 10 units.
Designed for use in standard CNMG-style toolholders accepting a 3/4-inch inscribed circle, 1/4-inch thick insert with a 0.312-inch hole diameter. Compatible with workpiece materials coded P, M, K, S, and H per ISO classification. Conforms to ANSI and ISO standards for CNMG 644 TH inserts.
This insert is installed and replaced by machinists or toolroom technicians following standard carbide insert changeover procedures. Before changing inserts, shut down spindle rotation and engage machine locks or e-stop protocols per the machine tool manufacturer guidelines. Seat the insert fully against the toolholder pocket and torque the clamp or pin fastener per the toolholder manufacturer specification. Inspect the insert seat and clamp for wear or debris before seating a new insert to ensure proper contact and prevent premature edge failure.
