The TUNGALOY 6802250 is a CNMG-style indexable turning insert in grade AH120, coated with TiAlN via PVD process for wear resistance and thermal stability in demanding cutting applications. The insert features an 80-degree diamond shape with a negative rake angle of -20 degrees, a 5/8-inch inscribed circle, and a 3/64-inch corner radius. The chamfered and honed cutting edge style along with the TH chip breaker geometry make it well suited for continuous and interrupted cuts in hard-to-machine materials. With four usable cutting edges and neutral hand orientation, this insert delivers consistent performance across turning, facing, and boring operations. It is installed and changed by machinists and CNC tooling technicians in production and job-shop environments.
The TUNGALOY 6802250 is designed for machining steel, stainless steel, cast iron, superalloys, titanium, and hard materials, covering ISO material codes P, M, K, S, and H. It is appropriate for both roughing and semi-finishing passes within the material grade ranges P15, P25, M15, M25, K15, K30, S10, and S25. Typical applications include external turning, facing, and boring on CNC lathes and turning centers in both light industrial and heavy production settings. The TH chip breaker geometry assists with chip control across this broad range of workpiece materials.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement and standard indexable insert for CNMG-style toolholders accepting a 5/8-inch inscribed circle, 1/4-inch thick insert with hole diameter of 0.2500 inches, conforming to ANSI and ISO standards under ISO code CNMG 543 TH.
Installation is performed by a machinist or CNC tooling technician. The machine spindle must be fully stopped and the turret locked before seating or indexing the insert. Use the appropriate torx or clamp screw driver specified for the toolholder to secure the clamp and pin holding method - do not over-torque the clamp screw beyond the toolholder manufacturer specification. Inspect the insert pocket and locating pin for chips or debris before seating a new edge to ensure proper seating and runout.
