The TUNGALOY 6801921 is an uncoated ceramic turning insert in the CNMA433 geometry, designed for high-speed interrupted and continuous cutting operations in cast iron. Built from silicon nitride ceramic, this insert operates without a coating, relying on the inherent hardness and thermal resistance of the base material to maintain edge integrity at elevated cutting speeds. The 80-degree diamond shape provides a strong cutting edge with a 3/64-inch corner radius and a neutral hand orientation. With four available cutting edges per insert and a flat-top chip breaker, it suits production environments where edge count and consistency matter. Licensed HVAC techs and plumbers won't be specifying this one - this is a machinist's tool, installed by CNC operators and manual lathe technicians in metal-cutting applications.
This insert is suited for turning, facing, and boring operations on cast iron workpieces in both production and job-shop environments. The CNMA433 geometry is a standard ANSI and ISO form factor, making it compatible with a wide range of CNMA-style toolholders used on CNC lathes and manual turning centers. The flat-top chip breaker with a honed cutting edge style is appropriate for finishing and semi-finishing passes where controlled chip formation and surface finish are priorities. The insert is held by clamp and pin methods, consistent with standard CNMA toolholder configurations.
Designed for use in CNMA-style toolholders conforming to ANSI and ISO standards. Primary workpiece material is cast iron (ISO material code K). Suitable for turning, facing, and boring applications. Maximum depth of cut is 0.1181 inches. Compatible with clamp and pin insert retention systems.
Insert seating and toolholder clamping should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC setup technician following the toolholder manufacturer's torque specifications. Before changing inserts, confirm the machine spindle is fully stopped and the machine is in a safe lockout state. Ceramic inserts are brittle - avoid dropping or impacting the cutting edge during handling and installation. Verify that the insert pocket and seating surface are clean and free of chips before seating the new insert.
