The TUNGALOY 6781040 is a CCMT-series indexable turning insert designed for general-purpose metal cutting on CNC lathes and turning centers. It features a CVD multilayer coating of TiCN, Al2O3, and TiN applied over a solid carbide substrate, designated manufacturer grade T9225. The 80-degree diamond shape (insert shape code C) provides a strong, versatile cutting geometry. With a 3/8 inch inscribed circle, a 0.047 inch corner radius, a 7-degree relief angle, and a positive 8-degree rake angle, this insert suits medium to moderate material removal across a range of workpiece materials. It is held in place by screw clamping and conforms to both ANSI and ISO standards.
This insert targets turning, facing, and boring operations on steel, stainless steel, and cast iron, corresponding to ISO material codes P, M, and K. It falls within material grades P15 and P25, making it well suited for continuous to mildly interrupted cuts at moderate feeds and depths. The PM chip breaker geometry controls chip evacuation during these operations. Licensed machinists, CNC programmers, and toolroom technicians working in job shop or production environments are the typical users. The ISO designation for this insert is CCMT09T312-PM T9225, and the industry standard number is CCMT 32.53 PM.
Designed for use in CCMT-style screw-clamp toolholders conforming to ANSI and ISO standards. Compatible with applications involving steel, stainless steel, and cast iron workpieces at ISO material codes P, M, and K. Verify toolholder pocket geometry and screw size before installation.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC toolroom personnel. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before indexing or replacing inserts. Use the correct torque wrench and clamp screw specified by the toolholder manufacturer when securing the insert to avoid cracking the carbide substrate. Inspect the toolholder pocket and seating surface for chips or damage before seating a new insert.
