The TUNGALOY 6780874 is a TNMG 432 TM grade T9225 solid carbide turning insert designed for external and internal metal cutting operations on CNC and manual lathes. The insert features a CVD-applied multilayer coating of TiN, TiCN, Al2O3, and TiN that delivers high wear resistance across a range of cutting conditions from roughing to medium machining. With a triangular shape, 60-degree included angle, negative rake, and 0-degree relief angle, this insert seats securely in standard TNMG toolholders. The 0.0313-inch corner radius and sharp cutting edge style make it well suited for demanding stock removal passes on steel, stainless steel, and cast iron workpieces.
The 6780874 insert targets medium to rough turning, facing, and boring applications in production and job-shop environments. Its T9225 grade characteristics span high wear resistance to moderate wear resistance and toughness across P, M, and K workpiece material classifications, covering steel, stainless steel, and cast iron. With six usable cutting edges per insert and compatibility with both clamp and pin holding methods, this insert delivers extended tool life and reduced per-edge cost in high-volume turning operations. It conforms to both ANSI and ISO standards, carrying ANSI code TNMG432 and ISO code TNMG220408.
Designed as an OEM-grade replacement and standard production insert for toolholders accepting TNMG 432 inserts with clamp or pin holding methods, per ANSI and ISO seating standards.
Installation is performed by a machinist or toolroom technician familiar with indexable insert toolholders. Disengage spindle power and lock out the machine before seating or indexing the insert. Ensure the insert pocket and seating surface are clean and free of chips before clamping to avoid premature edge failure. Follow the toolholder manufacturer torque guidance for the clamping screw and verify insert seating is flush before resuming cuts.
