The TUNGALOY 6780791 is a TNMG 331 TM grade T9225 indexable turning insert designed for general-purpose metal cutting on CNC lathes and turning centers. It features a triangular insert shape with a 60-degree included angle, a negative rake angle of -6 degrees, and a CVD multilayer coating consisting of TiN, TiCN, and Al2O3 layers applied over a solid carbide substrate. The coating improves wear resistance and thermal stability during continuous and interrupted cuts. With six available cutting edges and a sharp cutting edge style, this insert delivers consistent performance across a range of ferrous workpiece materials. It is installed and indexed by licensed machinists and CNC operators working in production and job-shop environments.
This insert is suited for turning, facing, and boring operations on steel, stainless steel, and cast iron. It falls within ISO material grade classifications P15 and P25, making it appropriate for medium-duty cutting conditions where both wear resistance and toughness are required. The TM chip breaker geometry is engineered for controlled chip evacuation during moderate feed and depth-of-cut applications. The neutral hand orientation allows use in both right-hand and left-hand toolholders that accept the TNMG 331 seat geometry. It conforms to both ANSI and ISO insert standards under ISO code TNMG 331 TM.
Designed for use in TNMG 331 toolholders accepting clamp or pin clamping methods. Primary workpiece materials are steel (P), stainless steel (M), and cast iron (K) per ISO material classification. Applicable to ISO material grades P15 and P25.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists following the toolholder manufacturer's clamping specifications. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before indexing or replacing inserts. Use the appropriate torx or insert clamp wrench for the specific toolholder style; do not use impact tools on insert clamping screws. Inspect the toolholder seat and clamping pin for wear or debris before seating a new insert.
