The TUNGALOY 6772436 is a CCMT120408-24 indexable turning insert manufactured from solid carbide with a CVD-applied multilayer coating of TiCN, Al2O3, and TiN. It carries the T9215 manufacturer grade and is designed for external and internal turning operations on CNC lathes and manual turning centers. The 80-degree diamond shape provides a strong cutting geometry with a 7-degree relief angle and a positive 6-degree rake angle. The honed cutting edge style reduces micro-chipping at the edge line, making this insert well-suited for medium-duty finishing and semi-finishing passes in steel and stainless steel applications.
This insert is rated for turning, facing, and boring operations. Its primary workpiece materials are steel (P10, P20), stainless steel, and cast iron, covering ISO material groups P, M, and K. The chip breaker designation is 24, which belongs to the CCMT-24 series (T9200 family). It is a neutral-hand insert, meaning it can be used in standard right-hand toolholders without a specific lead-angle restriction. Maximum depth of cut is 0.1181 inches (3.00 mm), making it best suited for light to medium finishing cuts rather than heavy roughing passes.
Designed for use in CCMT-style screw-clamp toolholders accepting a 1/2-inch inscribed circle insert with a 0.217-inch hole diameter. Conforms to ANSI and ISO standards under ISO code CCMT120408-24 and industry standard number CCMT 432-24. Compatible with toolholders rated for the CCMT 432 insert size code.
Installation is performed by licensed machinists or toolroom technicians using the appropriate torx or hex key for the clamping screw - consult the toolholder manufacturer specification for correct screw torque procedure. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before indexing or replacing inserts. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surface for chips or debris before seating the new insert, as contamination will cause runout and premature edge failure. Never force an insert into a pocket; proper seating is confirmed by flush contact with the pocket walls and correct screw engagement.
