The TUNGALOY 6772205 is a CNMG 433 THS indexable turning insert in grade T9215, designed for negative-rake external turning, facing, and boring operations on CNC and manual lathes. The insert features a multilayer CVD coating stack of TiCN, Al2O3, and TiN applied over a solid carbide substrate, providing wear resistance and thermal stability across a range of cutting conditions. Key geometry specs include an 80-degree diamond shape, a 0.5000-inch inscribed circle, a 0.1875-inch thickness, and a 0.0472-inch corner radius. With four usable cutting edges per insert and chamfered-and-honed edge prep, this insert delivers consistent performance in semi-finish and medium roughing passes.
The 6772205 is suited for turning steel, stainless steel, and cast iron workpieces, corresponding to ISO material groups P, M, and K. It targets material grades P10 and P20, making it a practical choice for medium-duty steel turning where both productivity and surface finish matter. The THS chip breaker geometry controls chip flow effectively in these material groups. Typical applications include external diameter turning, facing operations, and internal boring on production turning centers in job shop and high-volume environments. A licensed machinist or CNC operator handles installation and setup.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct application insert for toolholders accepting CNMG 433 geometry with clamp or pin holding. Primary workpiece materials are steel, stainless steel, and cast iron (ISO P, M, K groups). Conforms to ANSI and ISO CNMG 433 standards.
Installation is performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or indexing the insert. Ensure the toolholder pocket and insert seating surfaces are clean and free of chips before clamping. Follow the toolholder manufacturer's clamping torque specifications and verify insert seating before resuming cuts.
