The TUNGALOY 6772204 is a CNMG 432 THS indexable turning insert manufactured from solid carbide and finished with a multilayer CVD coating stack of TiCN, Al2O3, and TiN. The T9215 grade targets steel, stainless steel, and cast iron in P10 and P20 material grade applications. The insert carries an 80-degree diamond shape with a negative rake angle of -20 degrees and a chamfered and honed cutting edge style, delivering stable chip control during continuous and interrupted cuts. With four usable cutting edges and compatibility with clamp or pin holding methods, it is well suited for high-volume production environments where insert economy matters. Licensed machinists and CNC operators working in job shop and production turning applications are the primary end users.
The 6772204 fits CNMG-THS series toolholders and is rated for turning, facing, and boring operations. Its multilayer CVD coating provides thermal resistance and wear protection when cutting steel and stainless at moderate to high cutting speeds typical of P10 and P20 classifications. Primary workpiece materials are steel, stainless steel, and cast iron, identified by ISO material codes P, M, and K respectively. The THS chip breaker geometry is engineered for controlled chip evacuation across this material range, reducing recutting and heat buildup at the insert nose.
Designed for use in CNMG-THS series toolholders. ISO insert code CNMG 432 THS. Primary workpiece materials are steel (P), stainless steel (M), and cast iron (K) at material grades P10 and P20. Multi-use application: turning, facing, and boring.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC setup technicians. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or indexing the insert. Ensure the insert pocket and locating pin are clean and free of chips before clamping. Follow the toolholder manufacturer torque specifications for the clamping screw - do not overtighten, as this can fracture the carbide substrate.
