Product Description

The TUNGALOY 6772150 is a CNMG 431 TSF indexable turning insert manufactured from solid carbide with a multilayer CVD coating sequence of TiCN, Al2O3, and TiN. The 80-degree diamond shape and negative rake geometry give the insert a strong cutting edge suited for moderate to heavy material removal. With a 0.5080-inch insert length, a 0.5000-inch inscribed circle, and a 0.0157-inch corner radius, this is a general-purpose insert sized for standard CNMG toolholders. The T9215 grade targets steel and stainless steel in continuous and light-interrupted cut conditions. The TSF chip breaker controls chip flow across turning, facing, and boring operations. Licensed machinists and CNC lathe operators are the primary users.

This insert is intended for use on steel (P10, P20 material grade), stainless steel, and cast iron workpieces. The ISO application codes P, M, and K reflect that range. The TSF chip breaker geometry is optimized for medium-depth passes, with a maximum depth of cut of 0.0590 inches. Typical install scenarios include OD turning and facing on manual or CNC lathes, and light boring on mill-turn centers. The insert seats in CNMG-style toolholders using a clamp-and-pin holding method. It meets both ANSI and ISO dimensional standards under the CNMG 431 TSF industry code.

Key Features

  • Multilayer CVD coating (TiCN / Al2O3 / TiN) improves wear resistance and heat dissipation at the cutting zone
  • 80-degree diamond insert shape (C code) provides four usable cutting edges per insert
  • TSF chip breaker geometry supports turning, facing, and boring in a single insert style
  • T9215 grade targets P10 and P20 steel applications with coverage extended to stainless steel and cast iron
  • Negative rake angle with sharp cutting edge style balances edge strength and surface finish
  • Meets ANSI and ISO standards; compatible with clamp-and-pin CNMG toolholder systems

Compatibility

Designed as a direct-fit replacement for CNMG 431 TSF-style toolholders using the clamp-and-pin holding method. Primary workpiece materials include steel, stainless steel, and cast iron per ISO material codes P, M, and K.

Installation Notes

Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC setup technicians. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before indexing or replacing inserts. Use the correct torque driver for the clamp screw to avoid cracking the carbide substrate - refer to the toolholder manufacturer's specification for fastener torque. Inspect the toolholder pocket and seating surfaces for debris or wear before seating a new insert.
