The TUNGALOY 6741646 is a CNMG-series indexable turning insert designed for high-productivity metal cutting on CNC lathes and turning centers. Manufactured in the AH8015 carbide grade with a PVD-applied TiAlN coating, this insert delivers thermal resistance and edge stability across a broad range of workpiece materials. It features an 80-degree diamond shape with a negative rake angle of -15 degrees, a 5/8-inch inscribed circle, and a 3/64-inch corner radius. The HRM chip breaker geometry is engineered for controlled chip formation during turning, facing, and boring operations. Licensed machinists and CNC operators install this insert as part of routine tooling maintenance or when changing application parameters.
This insert is suited for turning, facing, and boring operations on steel, stainless steel, cast iron, non-ferrous metals, superalloys, titanium, and hard materials. The CNMG1601612-HRM geometry targets ISO material grades M10, M20, S10, and S20, making it a versatile option in job shops and production environments handling mixed-material work orders. With four cutting edges per insert and compatibility with standard CNMG clamp-and-pin toolholders, it supports efficient cost-per-edge economics in high-volume turning programs.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement for CNMG-style indexable insert toolholders using a clamp-and-pin holding method. Compatible with toolholders accepting a 5/8-inch inscribed circle, 1/4-inch insert thickness, and CNMG insert geometry per ANSI and ISO standards.
Installation is performed by qualified CNC machinists or toolroom technicians. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before indexing or replacing inserts. Use the appropriate torque wrench and manufacturer-specified clamp hardware when seating the insert to ensure proper clamping force without cracking the carbide substrate. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surface for chips or debris before installing a fresh edge.
