The TRU-MAXX 88542 is a knotted wire wheel brush designed for aggressive surface preparation and cleaning on metal, weld seams, and heavily oxidized or scaled surfaces. Built with carbon steel fill material and a standard twist knot configuration, this brush delivers consistent bite and durability through demanding deburring, rust removal, and paint stripping tasks. It mounts via a 5/8-11 arbor hole thread, making it compatible with standard angle grinders and bench grinders used daily in fabrication, HVAC sheet metal work, and mechanical service environments. Rated at 20,000 RPM, it handles high-speed tool operation without shedding. This brush is handled and installed by machinists, pipefitters, fabricators, and maintenance technicians.
The TRU-MAXX 88542 suits applications where wire cup brushes are too aggressive or where a wheel profile is needed to work along edges, joints, and weld toes. It is appropriate for use on carbon steel, cast iron, and similar hard substrates in both shop and field settings. With a 4-inch outside diameter and a 0.5-inch face width, it fits into tighter work envelopes while still covering adequate surface area per pass. Typical uses include pre-weld and post-weld cleanup, corrosion removal on pipe and structural steel, and surface conditioning before coating or inspection.
Designed for use with angle grinders and bench grinders equipped with a 5/8-11 arbor spindle, which is the standard thread on most 4-inch and 4.5-inch angle grinders.
Installation should be performed by a qualified technician familiar with abrasive wheel safety per ANSI B11 and tool manufacturer guidelines. Always inspect the brush for damaged or missing wire fill before mounting, and confirm the tool spindle speed does not exceed the 20,000 RPM rating of this brush. Power down and lock out the grinder before threading the brush onto the arbor, and ensure the retaining nut is fully seated. Always wear appropriate PPE including eye and face protection when operating wire wheel brushes.
