The TRIPP LITE U328F-20M is an active fiber optic USB cable that extends a USB 3.0 connection from a Type-A host port to a Type-B peripheral over a distance of 20 meters. Unlike passive copper cables, the active fiber design uses built-in signal boosting to maintain full USB 3.0 data transfer performance across the entire cable length without the signal degradation common to longer copper runs. This cable is typically installed by AV integrators and IT professionals in commercial environments where a host computer and a peripheral device must be separated by significant distances.
This cable is suited for commercial projector installations, conference room AV setups, digital signage deployments, and similar applications where a USB 3.0 Type-B device such as a projector, document camera, or other AV peripheral must be located far from the source machine. The 20-meter reach makes it practical for medium to large meeting rooms and auditorium-style spaces where running standard copper USB cables would result in unreliable connections or complete signal loss.
Designed for use with USB 3.0 Type-A host ports and USB 3.0 Type-B peripheral devices, typical of commercial projectors and AV equipment requiring extended USB connectivity.
Installation is typically performed by AV integrators or IT technicians. Power down or sleep the host computer before connecting or disconnecting the cable to avoid enumeration errors. Route the fiber cable with gentle bend radii and avoid sharp kinks, pinches, or tight conduit bends that can damage the fiber core. No special tools are required for termination as the cable ships with factory-installed connectors.
