The TRENDNET TEG-MGBS40D3 is a mini-GBIC SFP transceiver designed for dual-wavelength, single-fiber operation. This module enables Gigabit Ethernet connectivity over a single strand of single-mode fiber using bidirectional (BiDi) transmission, where separate transmit and receive wavelengths travel over the same fiber. The result is a practical solution for installations where fiber strand availability is limited. Network technicians and low-voltage integrators install this module into SFP-compatible switches, routers, or media converters to extend network reach without running additional fiber infrastructure.
This transceiver is suited for both commercial and enterprise network environments where fiber port density or single-strand fiber runs are a constraint. Typical install scenarios include building backbone runs, campus networks, and data center uplinks where existing single-mode fiber conduit has already been maxed out on strand count. The TEG-MGBS40D3 is sold as a single unit and is designed to work in conjunction with a paired BiDi transceiver at the far end of the link using a complementary wavelength.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement and field-install SFP module for use in standard SFP-slot-equipped Gigabit switches, routers, and media converters that support mini-GBIC transceivers.
This module is installed by network technicians and low-voltage professionals. Power down or administratively disable the SFP port before inserting or removing the transceiver to avoid interface errors. A complementary BiDi SFP with the matching paired wavelength must be installed at the opposite end of the fiber link for the connection to function. Follow local low-voltage wiring codes and the host equipment manufacturer guidelines when seating SFP modules.
