The TRANSITION NETWORKS TN-GLC-SX-MMD is a Small Form-factor Pluggable (SFP) fiber optic transceiver module designed for Gigabit Ethernet data transmission over multimode fiber. Operating at an 850nm wavelength, it conforms to the 1000BASE-SX standard, making it a compact and field-swappable solution for network switches, routers, and media converters. The module supports Digital Monitoring Interface (DMI), allowing technicians to read real-time optical performance data such as transmit power, receive power, and temperature directly from the host device. Network technicians and structured cabling professionals are the primary installers of this type of module.
The TN-GLC-SX-MMD is intended for use in data networking environments where Gigabit connectivity over multimode fiber is required. Typical installation scenarios include enterprise LAN switches, data center aggregation layers, and industrial network equipment. It is suited for short-reach fiber links commonly found in building backbone and campus backbone runs using multimode fiber infrastructure. The DMI feature is particularly useful in managed network environments where optical link diagnostics are monitored remotely.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or spare SFP transceiver for network equipment with standard SFP slots supporting 1000BASE-SX multimode fiber connections.
SFP modules are installed by qualified network technicians into SFP-compliant slots on switches, routers, or media converters. Before insertion or removal, follow the host device manufacturer guidance on hot-swap procedures to avoid damage to the module or host equipment. Clean fiber end-faces with an appropriate fiber optic cleaning tool before mating connectors to the module. Verify that the connected fiber plant uses multimode fiber compatible with 850nm short-wavelength transceivers.
