The TRANE val11905 is a thermostatic expansion valve (TXV) designed to regulate refrigerant flow in direct-expansion cooling systems. This valve meters refrigerant into the evaporator coil, maintaining the correct superheat level to protect the compressor and maximize system efficiency. Rated for 3-ton capacity, it features 3/8-inch and 1/2-inch ODF connections. Licensed HVAC technicians install this component as part of refrigerant circuit service or system replacement in residential and light commercial applications.
This TXV is suited for 3-ton direct-expansion refrigerant systems using ODF sweat connections. The 3/8-inch inlet and 1/2-inch outlet ODF sizing is common in split-system air conditioning and heat pump installations. It is typically installed at the evaporator coil inlet as part of a refrigerant circuit repair or upgrade when the existing expansion device has failed or when converting from a fixed-orifice metering device to a TXV-based system.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement TXV for TRANE residential and light commercial split-system air conditioning and heat pump units requiring a 3-ton thermostatic expansion valve with 3/8-inch x 1/2-inch ODF connections.
TXV replacement is performed by EPA Section 608 certified HVAC technicians. Recover all system refrigerant before opening the refrigerant circuit. Sweat connections require standard brazing tools and nitrogen purge to prevent oxidation inside the tubing. After installation, evacuate the system to the required micron level before recharging with the system manufacturer-specified refrigerant type and charge.
