The Trane A801X040AM3SD is a single-stage, induced-draft natural gas furnace rated at 40,000 BTU input and approximately 32,000 BTU output, delivering 80% AFUE heating efficiency. Part of the RunTru by Trane RT Series, this unit supports upflow, downflow, and horizontal left or right installation orientations, making it adaptable to a wide range of residential duct configurations. The cabinet measures 14.5 inches wide and 28.75 inches deep. A multi-speed CTM blower motor with nine speed selections allows airflow matching to the installed duct system. An integrated furnace control board with digital display and diagnostic memory handles setup, status, and fault logging.
The A801X040AM3SD is designed for residential heating applications in single-family and light multi-family settings. Its four-way multi-positional cabinet fits standard platform, closet, alcove, and attic installs where the 14.5-inch industry-standard cabinet width is required. The unit pairs with a matched evaporator coil for combined heating and cooling systems; one published system example pairs it with the A5AC4018A1000 condensing unit and 5TXCA001AS3HC coil for a complete split gas-electric package. The furnace is compatible with industry-standard coil cabinets and common duct accessories. It carries an ETL listing and is rated for the equivalent of 3-ton cooling airflow capacity.
The A801X040AM3SD is an OEM residential gas furnace compatible with industry-standard 14.5-inch-wide coil cabinets and accessories. It has been published as a system match with the Trane A5AC4018A1000 condensing unit and 5TXCA001AS3HC evaporator coil. It replaces the earlier A801X040AM3SC variant per published product lineage.
Installation must be performed by a licensed HVAC technician in accordance with local mechanical codes, the National Fuel Gas Code (NFPA 54), and the manufacturer installation, operation, and maintenance manual. Shut off gas supply and disconnect electrical power at the breaker before beginning any service or connection work. For horizontal attic installations, confirm that the installation platform and condensate drainage comply with local code requirements. Do not operate the furnace without all panels secured and the flue venting system fully connected and inspected.
