The Trane A5AC5042A1000 is a single-stage outdoor condensing unit designed for residential split-system cooling applications. Operating on R-454B refrigerant, it delivers 42,000 BTU/h of cooling capacity — equivalent to a 3.5-ton system — with a 15.2 SEER2 efficiency rating. The unit uses an all-aluminum coil construction and runs on a 24-volt control circuit with 208-230/1/60 electrical supply. It is installed by licensed HVAC technicians as the outdoor half of a matched split system paired with a compatible indoor air handler or coil.
The A5AC5042A1000 is rated for residential single-family cooling installations. It is part of the RunTru by Trane product line and is compatible with matched indoor air handler systems designed for R-454B refrigerant. One documented matched system pairing includes the A5AHC004A1D30A convertible air handler with an all-aluminum plate fin coil and four-way poise configuration. The unit is factory charged with the refrigerant required for the outdoor section and up to 10 feet of tested connecting line.
Designed to operate as the outdoor condensing unit in a matched R-454B split cooling system. A documented compatible indoor unit is the A5AHC004A1D30A convertible air handler. Indoor equipment must be rated for R-454B refrigerant. Consult Trane submittal data for full matched-system performance tables before specifying an indoor coil or air handler.
Installation must be performed by an EPA Section 608-certified HVAC technician due to the use of mildly flammable A2L refrigerant R-454B, which requires compliance with applicable local mechanical codes and ASHRAE 15 safety standards. Disconnect and lock out all electrical power to the system before making any electrical or refrigerant connections. The unit should be set on a level pad with adequate clearance on all sides per the manufacturer submittal drawing and local code requirements. Do not mix refrigerants or use R-410A service equipment not rated for A2L refrigerants.
