The TRANE 98701 is a Sil-Fos 15 phosphor-silver brazing alloy ring sized for 3/8 inch tubing connections. These pre-formed rings are used to join copper refrigerant lines and fittings during HVAC system installation and service. The Sil-Fos 15 alloy designation indicates a silver-bearing, self-fluxing composition suited for copper-to-copper joints, delivering a strong, leak-resistant bond when properly applied. HVAC technicians rely on pre-formed rings to deposit a consistent, controlled amount of alloy at the joint, reducing the risk of over- or under-brazing on refrigerant circuit connections.
These brazing rings are suited for residential and light commercial HVAC applications where 3/8 inch copper tubing is joined at coil connections, line set fittings, or service valve assemblies. The pre-formed ring format is particularly useful in tight equipment cabinets where feeding rod filler material by hand is difficult. Licensed HVAC technicians and refrigeration mechanics are the primary installers in this application.
Designed as an OEM-style brazing consumable for copper-to-copper refrigerant tubing joints commonly found in residential and light commercial HVAC systems using 3/8 inch line connections.
Brazing of refrigerant circuits must be performed by EPA Section 608 certified technicians following applicable mechanical and refrigeration codes. Purge the refrigerant circuit with dry nitrogen during brazing to prevent internal oxidation scaling. Ensure the system is fully recovered and depressurized before cutting or opening any refrigerant line. Allow joints to cool completely before pressurizing for leak testing.
