The TP-LINK ds105gp is a 5-port gigabit desktop switch designed for small network deployments requiring Power over Ethernet delivery. Four of its five RJ45 ports are PoE-enabled, compliant with IEEE 802.3af and 802.3at standards, and the switch carries a total PoE power budget of 65 watts with a maximum of 30 watts per port. Switching capacity is 10 Gbps with a packet forwarding rate of 7.44 Mpps and store-and-forward transfer. The unit is fanless, making it suitable for office desks, wall-mount closets, or any noise-sensitive environment. Network technicians and low-voltage installers typically deploy this switch for IP cameras, wireless access points, and VoIP endpoints.
The ds105gp fits residential and light-commercial network installations where a compact unmanaged PoE switch is needed at the edge. Ports 1 and 2 support Extend Mode, pushing PoE power and data transmission up to 250 meters over Cat5e or better cabling, which is well-suited for IP camera runs across large facilities or parking areas. PoE Auto Recovery on ports 1 through 4 automatically detects unresponsive powered devices such as cameras or access points and reboots them without manual intervention. Intelligent power management protects devices by cutting lower-priority ports when total consumption approaches the 65-watt budget ceiling.
Compatible with IEEE 802.3af and 802.3at compliant powered devices. Designed as a plug-and-play unmanaged desktop switch for standard 10/100/1000BASE-T network environments using UTP Category 5, 5e, or 6 cabling up to 100 meters under normal operation.
Installation is typically performed by low-voltage network technicians or qualified electricians familiar with structured cabling standards. Power down any connected powered devices before swapping the switch in an active network segment. Use Cat5e or Cat6 cabling to ensure gigabit performance and to support Extend Mode distances. Verify the total PoE load across all ports does not exceed 65 watts to avoid triggering automatic port power-down on lower-priority ports.
