The TOOL-FLO 64151J5R is a solid carbide profiling insert in the FLPL series, designed for profiling and turning operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Built from micrograin carbide with a GP3R manufacturer grade, it features a PVD-applied TiN coating and a positive rake geometry that reduces cutting forces and promotes clean chip formation. The parallelogram shape with a 55-degree included angle and 0.015-inch corner radius makes this insert well suited for contour turning, thread relief, and finish profiling on ferrous and non-ferrous materials. At 0.125 inches thick and 0.375 inches in length, it is a compact, precision-ground tool component used by machinists and tool-room professionals working to tight tolerances.
This insert is configured for left-hand cutting and mounts via clamp and pin holding. It fits FLPL-style toolholders sized for a 1/4-inch inscribed circle. Typical applications include external profiling, contour turning, and finish passes where a controlled depth of cut up to 0.361 inches is required. The two available cutting edges extend tool life between index cycles, making it a practical choice for production turning environments as well as job-shop operations that need consistent surface finish on turned profiles.
Designed for use in FLPL-51 series toolholders with a 1/4-inch inscribed circle seating. Compatible with toolholder systems specifying insert style FLPL, size code 51, and left-hand hand designation. Verify toolholder specifications against insert dimensions before installation.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or indexing inserts. Inspect the insert pocket and clamping surfaces for chips or debris before seating the insert to ensure proper contact and prevent insert rocking. Follow the toolholder manufacturer torque specifications for the clamping screw; do not over-tighten, as this can fracture the carbide substrate.
