The TOOL-FLO 592031LJ5R is a solid carbide grooving insert in the Flo-Lock series, designed for precision grooving and parting operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. It carries a GP3 manufacturer grade with a TiN (titanium nitride) PVD coating for extended tool life. The insert has a 1.57 mm cutting width, a maximum depth of cut of 2.79 mm, and a positive rake angle of 55 degrees. The full-radius geometry and micrograin carbide substrate make it well suited for consistent, clean groove profiles in demanding applications. This is a left-hand insert intended for use in compatible Flo-Lock toolholders.
This insert is intended for grooving operations in metalworking environments, particularly where stainless steel and similar materials are machined. The ISO code FLR-2031L identifies its geometry and hand orientation. It fits applications where a 3/16-inch gage diameter and a maximum depth of cut in the 2.00 mm to 3.00 mm range are required. Machinists and toolroom technicians working on production turning and finishing operations will find this insert applicable to both light and moderate grooving tasks where dimensional accuracy and finish quality are priorities.
Designed for use in TOOL-FLO Flo-Lock series grooving toolholders that accept the FLR-2031L insert style. Verify toolholder compatibility using the ISO code FLR-2031L and insert size code 2031 before installation.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician with the machine powered off and the spindle locked. Seat the insert fully in the toolholder pocket before tightening the clamping screw to the toolholder manufacturer's specification. Inspect the insert seat for chips or debris before each use, as contamination can affect insert seating and dimensional accuracy. Follow the machine tool manufacturer's guidelines and applicable shop safety procedures when changing cutting inserts.
