The TITAN USA TT89807 is a thread forming tap designed for creating M6x1.00 metric coarse internal threads without cutting. Instead of removing material, this tap displaces and cold-forms metal to produce strong, clean threads. It is built from high-speed steel with a bright uncoated finish and carries a 6H class of fit with a D9 thread limit. The plug chamfer provides a 4-thread lead for easy starting in through-hole applications. With a 1-inch thread length and 2.5-inch overall length, it fits standard tap holders used in machine shop and production environments. Machinists, tool and die technicians, and maintenance mechanics are the primary users.
This tap is suited for through-hole threading operations in production machining, maintenance, and repair work. The M6x1.00 metric coarse thread form is one of the most common fastener standards in industrial and automotive applications. The forming action work-hardens the thread flanks, which can extend the service life of the tapped hole compared to cut threads. It is well-matched for use in ductile materials such as aluminum, mild steel, and copper alloys where material flow is achievable. Thread forming taps require proper cutting fluid or tapping lubricant matched to the workpiece material — do not run dry. Because no chips are produced, through-hole clearance and correct drill size selection are critical to achieving the 6H fit tolerance. Secure the workpiece and use a calibrated torque-limited tap driver or tapping head to avoid tap breakage. Always verify drill size charts specific to thread forming taps, as forming taps require a larger pilot hole than cut taps for the same thread size.
