The TITAN USA TT82840 is a thread forming tap designed for 6-32 UNC internal threading in blind hole applications. Unlike cutting taps, thread forming taps displace material rather than cut it, producing stronger threads with no chips to clear. This tap is manufactured from high-speed steel with a bright uncoated finish and is configured with a bottoming chamfer of 2.5 threads, allowing it to form threads close to the bottom of a blind hole. The H3 thread limit designation indicates a controlled tolerance for consistent 3B class of fit results. At 2 inches overall length with an 0.6875-inch thread length, this tool suits precision threading operations performed by machinists, maintenance technicians, and HVAC or electrical trade professionals working with 6-32 fastener applications.
The TT82840 is suited for blind hole threading in materials that respond well to cold-forming, such as ductile metals including aluminum, brass, and mild steel. It is used in production and maintenance environments where chip-free threading is required and where 6-32 UNC fastener assemblies are standard. The bottoming chamfer makes it appropriate as a second or finishing tap following a plug or taper tap in deeper blind holes, or as a sole tap when hole depth allows minimal chamfer engagement. Series 876 designation identifies the tap family within TITAN USA's product line.
Designed for blind hole threading applications requiring 6-32 UNC internal threads with a 3B class of fit. Compatible with standard tap wrenches and machine holders accepting a 0.1410-inch shank diameter with a 0.1100-inch square drive.
Thread forming taps require adequate lubrication or cutting fluid appropriate for the workpiece material to prevent galling and premature wear. Secure the tap in a properly aligned tap wrench or machine spindle to avoid cross-threading and tap breakage. Ensure the blind hole is drilled to the correct tap drill diameter for thread forming, which is typically larger than the drill size used for cutting taps of the same thread specification. Follow applicable shop safety practices and secure the workpiece before tapping.
