Secure the workpiece firmly before drilling; lateral loading or chatter can chip a carbide cutting edge. Do not use carbide drills in hand-held portable drills where runout and side-loading are difficult to control. Inspect the cutting edge before each use and replace the bit at the first sign of chipping or edge breakdown.
