The TITAN USA CD44527 is a high speed steel jobber-length drill bit designed for general-purpose drilling in metal and hard materials. The 27/64 inch diameter bit features a 135-degree split-point tip that self-centers on contact, reducing walking and the need for a center punch on most surfaces. Two spiral flutes in a regular helix run 3-15/16 inches along the body, channeling chips clear of the cutting zone. A black oxide and TiN coating adds surface hardness and light lubricity. Straight-cylindrical shank diameter matches the bit diameter at 0.4219 inches, fitting standard 3-jaw drill chucks without a reducer. This bit is typically installed and used by machinists, millwrights, pipefitters, and maintenance technicians.
The CD44527 is suited for drilling steel, stainless steel, cast iron, non-ferrous metals, and superalloys including titanium-based materials. The 9xD flute-to-diameter ratio and 5-3/8 inch overall length make it appropriate for through-hole and deep-clearance drilling on structural members, pipe flanges, equipment frames, and fabricated assemblies. The split-point geometry performs well in interrupted cuts and on curved surfaces common in trade and industrial maintenance work. Coolant-through capability is not present, so external cutting fluid or cutting oil is recommended when drilling harder alloys.
Designed as a standard jobber-length drill bit for use in any 3-jaw drill chuck accepting a 27/64 inch straight shank. Compatible with drill press, hand drill, and magnetic drill applications where a straight-shank bit is specified. Primary workpiece material codes P, M, K, N, and S confirm suitability across steel, stainless steel, cast iron, non-ferrous metal, and superalloy and titanium workpieces.
Install the bit fully into the chuck jaws and tighten with a chuck key before starting the spindle. Secure the workpiece in a vise or fixture before drilling to prevent rotation. Apply cutting oil or cutting fluid at the drill tip when working on stainless steel, cast iron, or titanium alloys to manage heat buildup and prolong edge life. Inspect the cutting edges for chipping or wear before each use and replace the bit if the split point shows rounding or the flutes are packed with material.
