The TITAN USA CD32517 is a cobalt screw machine length drill bit designed for high-performance drilling in tough materials. Built to Series 325 specifications and conforming to NAS 907 Type J, this bit features a 135-degree split point for fast self-centering starts with minimal walking. At 17/64 inch (0.2656 inch decimal) in diameter and 2-5/8 inches overall length, the stub-length body provides added rigidity over jobber-length bits, making it well suited for high-torque drilling applications. Two spiral flutes with a 1-7/16 inch flute length clear chips efficiently and help maintain cutting speed. Right-hand cutting direction. Cobalt construction allows use on stainless steel, cast iron, titanium, and other hard or abrasive materials without rapid edge breakdown.
This bit is used in machine shop, fabrication, and maintenance environments where stub-length rigidity and cobalt heat resistance are required. It is a common choice for production drilling on CNC machines, drill presses, and hand-held power tools where standard jobber-length bits flex or chatter. The heavy-duty grade rating makes it appropriate for interrupted cuts and demanding production schedules. Typical users include machinists, maintenance mechanics, pipefitters, and industrial tradespeople who regularly work with harder alloys and heat-resistant metals.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or production-use screw machine length drill bit for use in standard straight-cylindrical shank drill chucks on CNC machining centers, drill presses, and power hand tools accepting straight-cylindrical shanks.
Installation and use should be performed by a qualified machinist or experienced tradesperson familiar with drill press and machine tool operation. Secure the bit firmly in the chuck before operation and verify the chuck key is removed before powering on the machine. Use appropriate cutting fluid or coolant when drilling hard alloys to extend tool life, unless the application requires dry cutting. Follow ANSI and machine manufacturer guidelines for speed and feed rates appropriate to the workpiece material and bit diameter.
