This fitting is rated for cold water service only and is listed under ASTM D-2609, NSF 14, and NSF 16 for potable water applications. The 1402-010 is intended for cold water polyethylene pipe systems in agricultural, irrigation, and light commercial or utility applications. It is not approved for use inside dwellings, and it must not be used with compressed air or any gas service. The NSF 14 and NSF 16 listings confirm suitability for potable water service where those certifications are required by local plumbing codes. Installation of polyethylene insert fittings is typically performed by a licensed plumber. Shut off and depressurize the water supply line before cutting into the existing pipe. Slide stainless steel clamps onto the PE pipe before inserting the fitting, then position the clamps over the barbed ends and torque according to the clamp manufacturer specifications. Do not modify the fitting in any way, as doing so voids the warranty and may compromise the integrity of the joint.
