The THOMAS BETTS UNF 405-TB is a steel conduit female union fitting designed for use with rigid metal conduit (RMC) and intermediate metal conduit (IMC) systems at 1-1/4 inch trade size. It features a straight, threaded connection and is non-insulated, making it a direct, no-frills mechanical coupling for joining conduit runs at termination points. Electricians use this fitting where two conduit ends must be connected without rotating either section of conduit. The all-steel construction is rated for both hazardous and non-hazardous area applications, giving it broad site versatility across industrial, commercial, and utility installations.
This female union is suited for rigid IMC conduit systems in commercial and industrial environments where code-compliant, threaded mechanical connections are required. Typical install scenarios include panel feeds, junction box connections, and inline conduit repairs where a union-style fitting allows the conduit run to be broken and reassembled without disturbing adjacent sections. Its hazardous location rating makes it applicable in classified areas such as Class I or Class II environments where metallic conduit methods are required by the NEC.
Designed as an OEM-style threaded fitting for 1-1/4 inch trade size rigid metal conduit (RMC) and intermediate metal conduit (IMC) systems.
Installation should be performed by a licensed electrician in accordance with NEC Article 344 for rigid metal conduit or Article 342 for IMC. De-energize all circuits and lock out the system before beginning conduit work in live panels or junction enclosures. Apply listed thread-sealing compound or thread tape appropriate for steel conduit threads when installing in wet or hazardous locations. Do not over-tighten threaded connections, as this may damage the fitting body or conduit threads.
