The THOMAS BETTS SSF-BH1/4 is a hammer-on flange clip designed to attach threaded rod to structural steel flanges without drilling or welding. Made from spring steel with an anodized finish, it drives onto flange material ranging from 1/8 inch to 1/4 inch thick and accepts a 1/4-20 threaded rod. Rated at 100 pounds load capacity, the clip provides a fast, secure anchor point for suspended mechanical, electrical, and plumbing runs. Electricians, pipefitters, and HVAC installers rely on this style of clip to speed up beam attachment in both new construction and retrofit projects.
The SSF-BH1/4 is suited for commercial and industrial applications where threaded rod hanger systems are suspended from I-beams, channel iron, or similar structural steel flanges. Typical uses include supporting conduit runs, pipe hangers, duct hangers, and cable tray systems from overhead structural members. The 1/4-20 rod thread is a common size across a wide range of strut and hanger hardware, making this clip easy to integrate into standard suspension assemblies.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement and direct-use flange clip for 1/4-20 threaded rod hanger systems on structural steel flanges with a thickness between 1/8 inch and 1/4 inch. Also referenced under Raco, Minerallac, and Gedney part number BU-2-4 and Gedney part number M-2-4.
Installation is performed by electricians, pipefitters, or HVAC mechanics as part of overhead suspension work. Before installing, confirm the flange is within the 1/8 inch to 1/4 inch thickness range and that the structural member can support the intended load. Drive the clip firmly onto the flange by hand or with a mallet until fully seated before attaching the threaded rod. Follow applicable NEC, IPC, or IFGC guidelines for hanger spacing and load ratings when incorporating this clip into a suspension system.
