The THOMAS BETTS HS40-400L is a black polyolefin heat shrink sleeve engineered for wire and cable protection in electrical, HVAC, and industrial applications. Starting at 1-1/2 inches inner diameter, it shrinks to a minimum of 0.501 inches ID at a 3:1 ratio, offering a tight, conforming fit over conductors, splices, and terminations. At 12 inches in overall length, each sleeve provides ample coverage for butt splices, wire bundles, and connector backshells. The polyolefin construction delivers abrasion resistance, acid resistance, and corrosion resistance in a single low-profile sleeve suitable for use up to 194 degrees F. This package contains 10 sleeves.
The HS40-400L is used in residential and commercial electrical installations, HVAC wiring harnesses, control panel wiring, and field splicing of large-gauge conductors. The 3:1 shrink ratio makes it well suited for irregular or stepped profiles common in splice kits and cable terminations. Minimum compatible wire size is 2/0 AWG, placing this sleeve in the range of service entrance, feeder, and heavy equipment wiring where durable insulation protection is critical. Licensed electricians and HVAC technicians are the primary installers.
Designed for use on conductors 2/0 AWG and larger where a 1-1/2 inch recovered starting diameter and 3:1 shrink ratio are required. Suitable for general electrical, HVAC, and industrial wire protection applications.
Installation is typically performed by a licensed electrician or HVAC technician. De-energize and lock out the circuit before applying the sleeve over any conductor or splice. Apply uniform heat from a heat gun starting at the center of the sleeve and working outward to prevent air pockets from forming. Do not use an open flame, as uneven heat can cause uneven shrinkage or damage the sleeve.
