The THOMAS BETTS g-40 is a 3/8-inch threaded rod manufactured from low-carbon A36 steel with a zinc-electro galvanized finish. This coarse-thread (USS) rod is a standard fastening and support component used in mechanical, electrical, and plumbing installations. At 10 feet in length, it provides a full-length stock piece that can be cut to size on the job. The zinc-electro galvanized coating provides corrosion resistance suitable for indoor and light-duty applications. Licensed tradespeople in HVAC, electrical, and plumbing regularly use threaded rod for pipe hangers, strut systems, equipment support frames, and seismic bracing assemblies.
This threaded rod is well suited for residential and light commercial construction and retrofit work. It is commonly used with strut channel, beam clamps, rod couplings, and pipe hanger hardware to suspend conduit, ductwork, piping, and mechanical equipment from structural members. The coarse USS thread pattern is compatible with standard hex nuts, coupling nuts, and rod-hanging hardware found across trade applications.
Designed as a standard 3/8-inch coarse-thread threaded rod for use with compatible strut channel systems, rod couplings, hex nuts, and pipe hanger hardware in mechanical, electrical, and plumbing support assemblies.
Threaded rod installation is typically performed by licensed electricians, pipefitters, plumbers, or HVAC mechanics depending on the application. Always ensure the structural attachment point is rated for the intended load before installing rod hanger assemblies. Use a pipe cutter, hacksaw, or angle grinder with an appropriate cutting wheel to cut rod to length, and deburr cut ends before threading on hardware. Follow applicable codes including NEC, IPC, or IFGC as relevant to the specific trade application.
