The THOMAS BETTS E940E is a PVC conduit coupling designed for joining rigid polyvinylchloride conduit in electrical raceway systems. This fitting uses a solvent-glued connection method to create a secure, insulated joint between two conduit sections. At a 3/4 inch trade size, it is one of the most common sizes used in commercial and residential electrical installations. The insulated construction keeps the electrical system isolated at the joint, and the PVC material resists corrosion in wet and non-hazardous environments. Electricians reach for this fitting when extending or repairing PVC rigid conduit runs.
This coupling is suited for use in non-hazardous locations where rigid PVC conduit is specified. Typical applications include branch circuit conduit runs in residential construction, light commercial buildings, and outdoor installations where PVC is preferred over metal for its corrosion resistance. Installation is performed by a licensed electrician in accordance with NEC Article 352 governing rigid PVC conduit. De-energize all circuits in the affected raceway before opening or modifying conduit. Apply PVC solvent cement to both the conduit ends and the interior of the coupling before joining, and allow adequate cure time before pulling wire. Do not use this fitting in classified hazardous locations.
