The THOMAS BETTS DX-1 is a gray duct seal compound used to block air, moisture, and pest infiltration at conduit and pipe entry points in electrical and mechanical installations. Sold as a 1-pound slug, it is a non-hardening, pliable material that fills gaps and voids around conduit knockouts, panel entries, and wall penetrations. Licensed electricians, HVAC technicians, and plumbers commonly use this product during rough-in and finish work wherever an airtight or weathertight seal is required at a penetration point.
This duct seal compound is suited for residential and light commercial applications. Typical uses include sealing conduit entries into electrical panels, meter bases, junction boxes, and building envelope penetrations where conduit or pipe passes through walls, floors, or ceilings. The gray color blends with common conduit and enclosure finishes. It is applied by hand or with a putty knife and requires no curing time before the penetration is considered sealed.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement duct seal compound for use at conduit and pipe penetrations in residential and commercial electrical and mechanical installations.
Installation is typically performed by a licensed electrician or mechanical contractor. De-energize any panel or enclosure before working at conduit entry points, in accordance with NFPA 70 (NEC) lockout/tagout requirements. Pack the compound firmly into the gap around the conduit or pipe, ensuring no voids remain. Do not use as a structural filler or as a substitute for listed firestop materials where fire-rated assemblies are required.
