The THOMAS BETTS 6H is a hex split bolt connector designed for joining and tapping copper conductors in electrical distribution and wiring applications. Built from copper alloy, this connector maintains solid conductivity and corrosion resistance under load. It accepts 8 to 6 AWG copper wire and features a hex-head bolt for reliable torque application with a standard wrench. The overall length measures 31/32 inches, with a head width of 15/32 inches and a base width of 21/32 inches. Licensed electricians and journeymen use this type of connector for service entrance, panel feed, and branch circuit splicing work.
This connector is suited for residential and light commercial electrical installations where copper-to-copper conductor connections are required. Typical applications include splice points in junction boxes, meter bases, load centers, and conduit runs. The split bolt design allows the installer to seat the tap wire alongside the run wire and tighten the bolt to create a compression-style mechanical connection without the need for specialty crimp tooling.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement and standard-use split bolt connector for copper wire applications in the 8 to 6 AWG range.
Installation should be performed by a licensed electrician in accordance with NEC requirements. De-energize and lock out the circuit before making any connections. Strip conductors to the appropriate length, seat the run and tap wires in the connector saddle, and tighten the hex bolt firmly using an insulated-handle wrench. Apply self-fusing or listed electrical tape over the completed connection where required by code.
