The THOMAS BETTS 679 is a threaded conduit coupling designed for joining rigid metal conduit (RMC) and intermediate metal conduit (IMC) runs at a 1-1/2 inch trade size. Constructed from malleable iron, this non-insulated fitting provides a concrete-tight connection suitable for demanding installation environments. It accepts standard threaded conduit ends and is installed by licensed electricians during raceway assembly in commercial, industrial, and residential wiring systems.
This coupling is used where rigid or IMC conduit sections must be joined inline, extended, or terminated within a conduit system. Its concrete-tight rating makes it appropriate for installations where the conduit is encased in or in contact with concrete, including underground or slab applications. It is sold individually and is a direct-fit threaded coupling requiring no special tooling beyond standard conduit wrenches and thread compound.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement and standard-use fitting for 1-1/2 inch trade size rigid metal conduit and intermediate metal conduit (IMC) threaded raceway systems.
Installation should be performed by a licensed electrician in accordance with the National Electrical Code (NEC). De-energize all circuits in the conduit run before making any connections or modifications to the raceway. Use a pipe wrench and approved thread sealant or conduit thread compound when making up threaded joints. Verify that the conduit trade size matches the coupling before installation to ensure a proper fit.
