The THOMAS BETTS 54854BE is a non-insulated rectangle ring terminal designed for permanent compression connections in electrical wiring applications. It accommodates 4 AWG wire and features a copper contact body with a TiN (titanium nitride) plating for enhanced corrosion resistance and conductivity. The terminal measures 2.31 inches in overall length and 0.52 inches in ring width, with a 0.10-inch material thickness. It accepts a 1/4-inch stud and is suited for high-current termination points in panel wiring, grounding applications, and industrial control circuits. Installation requires a proper compression crimping tool sized for 4 AWG terminations.
This terminal is used in residential, commercial, and light industrial electrical installations where a reliable, low-resistance mechanical connection is required. It is appropriate for panel board terminations, grounding conductors, bus bar connections, and equipment wiring where a non-insulated ring-style lug is specified. The gray color coding assists with wire gauge identification during installation and inspection. Electricians and electrical contractors are the primary installers of this type of terminal.
Designed as an OEM-style compression ring terminal for use with 4 AWG conductors and 1/4-inch stud termination points in standard electrical panel and equipment wiring applications.
Installation should be performed by a licensed electrician in accordance with NEC requirements for wire terminations and grounding. De-energize the circuit completely before installing or removing any terminal lug. Use a compression crimping tool rated for 4 AWG non-insulated terminals to achieve a proper crimp — do not substitute with a standard plier or non-calibrated tool, as an improper crimp can result in a high-resistance joint or mechanical failure. Inspect the completed crimp for deformation, wire pullout resistance, and full seating against the stud before re-energizing.
